While Reading 1984 I began comparing Winston Smith to other old people that I know in my own life. Smith being and older gentalman who wasn’t open to the thought of a new government or a new way of thinking (such as newspeak- which is a ridiculous concept anyway). I feel that older people tend to move away from change because they fear it. Winston Smith often told stories about the life that he one new. I think that people hold on to these stories in an attempt to hold on to their youth. However we must learn from our past mistakes and in order to not repeat them in the future. I think that the way that the new children of the society will take on the new ways in less damaging then to the elders because they don’t know the way things use to be.
Smith new how the old government was. He feared newspeak and doublethink while the small children of his neighbors, will embrace the new government and follow it without thinking twice.
