One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part III

Something that stuck out to me about part three was when McMurphy tests the patients by refusing to help them once they are out to sea. Like the bible tells us Jesus took his twelve disciples to the sea and left them. When the storms came they seen that they accucally needed Jesus so they he came and saved them. But just like the Jesus story they begain to see themselves as men. They proved that they can believe in themselves and the power of eachother.

CC NEST PART 2

Part two Starts with Harding's wife comes for a visit. Harding makes fun of her grammar. After she leaves, McMurphy is very mad and beings to yell when Harding asks him what he thinksing of her.
The patients are then taken to get chest X rays for TB where McMurphy finds out that the that Nurese Ratched can send anyone to undergo electroshock therapy.
It is at this point that Mc Murphy understands that they submit to her not only because she is able to authorize these treatments, but also because she determines when they can leave the hospital. Harding informs him that, to the contrary, Scanlon is the only Acute aside from McMurphy who is committed. McMurphy asks Billy Bibbit why he chooses to stay when he could be outside driving a convertible and romancing pretty girls.
Billy Bibbit begins to cry and shouts that he and the others are not as big, strong, and brave as McMurphy.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Part One

In the first few pages of the book we meet Chief Bromden and he quickly is identified as the narrator of the story. We learned that his is a patient in the ward. We think that he is easly perswaded by the others in the ward. Because he acts so shy and timad noone thinks his is of very importance. There are many symbols in the story . One important symble is fog. The fog has the ability to symbolizes that Chieft Bromden has a lack of reality. Because at time ignorace can seem like bliss, Chief Bromden doesnt mind the fog. he can escape from the problems. McMurphy becomes a strong and impowered character in the book. He wants Chief Bromden and all the residence of the ward to go out into the fog.

When watching the play Hamlet....

I found the play at the Lantern Theater very enjoying.

Although I found the costumes very different and surprising, I understand why the director chose to style the actors in this manner.  Ophelia’s dress was very modern which at first confused me. She also appeared younger then Hamlet. I believe that this is because Ophelia is very immature in the play. He headband and flats showed how naive and young the young girl really is which could be the reason why she was always running to her father and telling on her love, Hamlet

The energy of the play was fun and upbeat and I found little time for distraction. When watching the play I was impressed with the different stage directions as well as the way the actors moved quickly even in the dark. I enjoyed when the actors came out after the play to speak with us.

Hamlet Act II

This act discusses the madness that Hamlet is enduring.

Although Hamlet believes that the ghost really is his father he is concerned that this information may be false. He decides that he is going to create a play where the actors will reenact the death of his father. As his uncle and new king watches the play Hamlet will spy and see his face. He believes that if he acts surprised then he really did kill the late king and the ghost really was the late Hamlet.

One of the main questions regarding the play that stuck with me throughout was whether Hamlet was actually crazy or just pretending to fool his family and friends.  A part of me thinks that he was just acting crazy in order to trick everyone. He wanted them to believe that he has lost his mind so that he could fool them. The events that Hamlet endured didn’t help the fact that he was mental unstable. The death of his father, the remarriage of his mother to his uncle and the odd behavior of his girlfriend Ophelia would make him fall into depression. I wonder how the play’s plot would change if Gertrude didn’t run off and marry Hamlets uncle right away. Would Hamlet ever have found out the Claudius killed his father? Would King Hamlet have ever come to young Hamlet to tell the story

Hamlet

When thinking of the section that I paraphrased from the play that fact that everyone has an underlying agenda makes me discuss the 2nd act. Clearly Polonius comes to the conclusion that Hamlet is mad for Ophelia’s love. The way the Ophelia is very honest and trusting of her father may foreshadow her obedience in the rest of the play. Shakespeare makes sure that the reader understands that fathers or Kings don’t trust their “owners/fathers”. He does this by having Polonius send a spy to France to observe his son, Laertes, and has Claudius do the same by bringing Hamlet’s friends to the castle. Hamlet also shows that he is cunning even though they thing that he lost his mind. He tricks his friends into telling him that they were sent to spy on him.Even the queen has her own agenda even if Gertrude is worried about her son’s wellbeing while her new husband has his own plan to look after. Gertrude is worried and doesn’t want to have Polonius spy on her son.

The following this is translation:

ACT II SCI I

Polonius: Give Laertes this money and these notes, Reynaldo.
Reynaldo: I will. Polonius: You should do a good job. Talk to his friends before you see him. Get to know what others think about him.
Reynaldo: I intended to, my lord.
Polonius: Find out who his friends from Denmark are. Find out how they live, where they live, and how much money they spend. Talk to people around town and try to find out how much they know about Laertes.
Reynaldo: Yes, very well, my lord. Polonius: You may tell lies about him, but don't say things that will dishonor him. Tell small lies.
Reynaldo: Like gambling? Polonius: Yes, or drinking, fencing, swearing, quarreling, or drabbing: you may go that far.
Reynaldo: Polonius, that would dishonor him.
Polonius: That's not my meaning. Say some of those but don't say that he’s whoring around. Make
the lie sound like an everyday bad thing.
Reynaldo: But, my lord-
Polonius: Do you know how you will do this?
Reynaldo: Yes, Polonius, I know what I am going to do.
Polonius: Yes, sir, catch my drift: as you lie to this person, make sure that this person you lie to tells the truth. This man can call you friend or gentlemen, but be absolutely certain he tells you the truth.
Reynaldo: Very well, Polonius.
Polonius: And then, sir, he does this- he does- what was I about to say? By the mass, I was about to say something: where did I leave off at?
Reynaldo: At ‘closes in the consequence’ at ‘friend or so,’ and ‘gentleman.’
Polonius: At ‘closes in the consequence,’ yes! In addition, by telling lies, we will catch him in the middle of doing something wrong. I am doing this with best intentions. I want you to be bias against him and find the truth by lying. Did you get everything I said?
Reynaldo: My lord, I have.
Polonius: May God be with you, and farewell.
Reynaldo: Good my lord! Polonius: Be sure to watch him with your own eyes.
Reynaldo: I will.
Polonius: And let him do what he wants.
Reynaldo: Yes, sir.
Polonius: Farewell! Oh hello, Ophelia! What's the matter?
Ophelia: I have been frightened!
Polonius: How have you been frightened?
Ophelia: I was sewing in my closet when Lord Hamlet, filthy and his clothing astray, was pale as his shirt, his knees were knocking each other, and he looked so bad that he couldn’t talk to me.
Polonius: Mad for your love?
Ophelia: I do not know, but I fear it.
Polonius: What did he say?
Ophelia: He grabbed me by the wrist and started touching my face as if he was observing it for a painting. Then he bobbed his head up and down like a crazy person would do. He finally let me go and walked out the door with his face facing me; his eyes fixed upon my face. Polonius: He’s gone love crazy. Love will make you do the weirdest things. Have you given him harsh words lately?
Ophelia: No, but I did as you told me. I denied his access to me. Polonius: That's why he is mad. I wish I had thought more of what I was telling you. It’s common for old people not to think through things as a young person would. We must tell the king before Hamlet hurts himself. More grief to hide than hate to utter love. Come.

Coleridge/Shelley

1) Since the power of the imagination is often exalted in Romantic poetry, in my opinion, "Kubla Khan" does celebrate imagination. Coleridge promotes excitement and enthusiasm. Such as “That sunny dome! Those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware!”
The form of this poem is chant like with a provoke excitement and cause imagination.

Coleridge is writing this poem for anyone who wants to celebrate imagination. Although Coleridge dreamed lines of the poem without his imagination he wouldn’t have been able

2) In Shelley's "Ozymandias", there are two speakers. The first speaker is used to introduce the poem for the first line. The second speaker helps bring an understanding to the reader.Ozymandias shows the reader that two things will forever be. One is that the underling power of Mother Nature will never end. The second is that everyone for the rest of his or her life feels human’s actions.

Chimney Sweep

I agree with the editors in a way that the author, Blake have the ability to change the labor that were forced upon young children. This poem is the Children's reality but the reader's imagination.
Because the readers have never been through what the children have endured they only can feel empathy toward the children.

They included the Parliament Transcript as a primary source document in with the story because they wanted to see Blake's view of the children and there rights. They also did this to show that something that can be little and seem unnecessary but can really and the issues and importance later in life.

Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels

A)
Why did Swift have the “small people” speak a different language. How did the language barrier affect the story? Would the story have been different if they could understand one another? What the story have progressed differently if they could understand each other? How to signals affect the relationships in the story?
Exerts that we will be using from the story will deal with the signals and signs that they used as a form of communication throughout the story such as when he moved his hand to his mouth to motion that he wanted food and drink.

B)
When we first started the assignment my group because we weren’t always on the same page when it came to picking a topic to convey to the class. After we discussed all of the possible views we could take, we came to the conclusion that it would be easiest to teach others about the language barrier because it was the most interesting to us. I learned that if you don’t understand the material and enjoy the topic it would be hard to convey the message and information to others.

C)

My group and I need to research the reasons why an author might make groups of people speak different languages in the story. I think that we need to approach the subject of the view of the “small” people who understood the signals and signs throughout the story.
